BEWARE OF MORTGAGE AND LOAN MODIFICATION SCAMS!

As a consumer, you need to be aware that there are numerous scams associated with mortgages and loan modifications. Keep in mind that:

There is never a fee to get assistance or information about loan modifications from Helping Neighbors in Need counselors or from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) concerning the government’s “Making Home Affordable Plan.”

You should beware of any person or organization that asks you to pay an upfront fee in exchange for mortgage counseling services or modification of a delinquent loan.

You should beware of anyone who says they can “save” your home if you sign or transfer over the deed to your house.

You should not sign over the deed to your property to any organization or individual unless you are working directly with your mortgage company, or your attorney.

You should never submit your mortgage payments to anyone other than you mortgage company without you mortgage company’s approval.
